I started my public health career at the Wisconsin Division of Health, where I was an environmental epidemiologist researching the health effects of living near Superfund sites and various other sources of environmental toxic chemical exposure. I found this work very exciting, however after five years, I decided to enter the private sector with a job in product safety and regulatory affairs at the Colgate-Palmolive Co. While at Colgate, I became active in the New Jersey Public Health Association, moving up to president within a few years.
My passion has become integration of private industry with the public health community through mutually beneficial programs. Through a series of jobs at pharmaceutical, food and chemical manufacturers, eventually ending at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, I retained that interest, starting joint programs in nutrition, infection control and oral health, creating “win-win” situations for both industry and public health professionals.
