I am the Director of the Office of Public Health Practice at the UMDNJ-School of Public Health. As Director, I oversee many public health projects, including occupational safety and health, emergency preparedness, public health education, and workforce development. The combination of science, education, and business brought me to public health. I am interested in providing education to various populations to be able to protect their health. I started as a health educator, developing and implementing occupational safety and health training programs for hazardous waste workers. I was interested in ensuring that workers would be safe and healthy while working at these dangerous work sites. The training provided to the workers had a direct effect on their safety, preventing injuries and accidents. Because protecting workers is an area of interest, I am expanding it to include young workers. I want teenagers to understand the value of safety when they take their first job and be able to carry that knowledge throughout their lives. Mitchel A. Rosen |
